Maria Tunis Graphic Design About Me
My dad, Ray Blair, passed away in July 2024, just shy of his 98th birthday. He was an inspiring individual who pursued his passions with remarkable dedication.

After becoming a certified naturopath counselor in 1982, he shared his knowledge and enthusiasm for health through his newsletter, which he continued publishing until the age of 94. His passion for learning and helping others has left an indelible mark on my life.

About Me

My father, Ray Blair, was a lifelong entrepreneur with an incredible passion for his work. During my childhood, he owned a print shop and published a small TV Scene Guide back when we relied on UHF and VHF channels. With a full darkroom in his shop, he handled every aspect of the printing process himself: from layout and design to print.

By the time I was around 10 years old, my dad started letting me help with his work. I’d type up TV show schedules and even operate the headliner machine—an essential tool in the days long before typesetters and computers revolutionized the industry.

My dad's dedication to his craft sparked my own love for graphics, which I proudly credit to his influence and creativity!

I’ve had a dynamic career in graphic design and pre-press production, spanning over three decades. Since 2007, I’ve been running my own freelance business, providing creative services for clients in need of graphic design for print, packaging, and web projects. From logos and package designs to brochures, newsletters, posters, and banners, I manage every step of the process, taking projects from concept to completion.

Before venturing into freelance work, I co-owned Q Enterprises, Inc., a graphic arts equipment service company, from 1999 to 2007. In addition to managing the business, I served as the lead workflow trainer, providing on-site instruction for pre-press departments. I taught teams how to optimize their workflows and master industry-standard graphic software like Adobe Suite and QuarkXPress.

From 1993 to 1999, I was the lead software instructor at Hanley Graphics Products, where I developed curriculum and trained both individuals and groups on pre-press workflows and graphic design software.

My journey began as a typesetter and Mac designer at McAdam’s MultiGraphics in Oak Brook, IL, where I worked from 1988 to 1993. Initially trained on the Mergenthaler typesetter, I transitioned to Macintosh workflows in 1992, gaining hands-on experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Aldus PageMaker, QuarkXPress, and other pre-press tools as the industry evolved.

In 1992, I completed the Computer Graphics Certificate Program at Robert Morris College in Chicago, further solidifying my foundation in graphic design and digital workflows.

My extensive experience has equipped me with the skills to deliver creative, professional, and impactful design solutions tailored to my clients' unique needs.
